The third hole at Bethpage Green is temporarily out of commission due to "severe stress" on the putting green resulting from the recent August weather, according to course staff. While recuperating, the 153-yard par-3 has been replaced with a modified par-3 "eighth" built into the ninth hole. The par-5 ninth has been shortened to a par-4 of approximately 420 yards.
Green #3 is part of Newsday's Long Island Dream 18. It is a deceptive, uphill par-3 fortified by the steep climb and a front bunker. The putting surface is hidden from view, and missing it anywhere but short can lead to unfavorable position in the woods behind the green or back down the slope to the right.
