Already boasting holes worthy of praise in "Dream 18" collections put together by Newsday and Golfing Magazine, one of Long Island's most challenging and visually stunning public golf courses will be able to put more padding in its resume later this spring.
Hamlet Willow Creek Golf and Country Club in Mount Sinai has been selected to host a New York State Open qualifier on Thursday, June 16. The NYS Open will take place the following month, July 19-21 at Bethpage Black.
Designed by Stephen Kay and opened for play in 2005, Willow Creek is a demanding layout with nearly one hundred sand traps ranging from small pot bunkers to sprawling waste areas. More than half of Willow Creek's holes feature water hazards. The sand, water and finely manicured fairways and greens overseen by the gorgeous clubhouse combine to make Willow Creek one of the Island's most picturesque courses -- public or private.
Willow Creek's ninth and 15th have been selected in past editions of Golfing Magazine's Dream Golf Club, and the 15th is also a member of Newsday's Dream 18.
