Chances are you've already met Spring Lake Golf Club head pro and director of golf Cristy Jurgens (nee Grzymala). If not, on your next visit to the 27-hole course in Middle Island, she'll likely be there to ring you up, send you out to the starter and make a suggestion or two on equipment.
Mark Herrmann profiled Jurgens in Newsday this week and traces her path from Hofstra to Long Island National Golf Club and the Links at Shirley, and eventually to Spring Lake, where she began as an assistant pro. (Read the article here; subscription required.)
Golf On Long Island previously highlighted Cristy's work on Spring Lake's SNAG (Starting New at Golf) Clinics for beginning golfers. Also in the works at Spring Lake -- junior golf camps beginning in July and a free rewards program for repeat customers.
For more information on clinics, camps and other Spring Lake programs, visit the course website or call (631) 924-5115. And to learn more about the facility, check out the following links to flyovers of the 18-hole Thunderbird Course and the nine-hole Sandpiper Course.
