South Bay Country Club in Oceanside will take a quick maintenance break next week after what will likely be a busy Labor Day weekend. The bayside course will be closed for aeration on Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4.
While the crew takes care of the turf, you can brush up on the windy waterfront layout by checking out the South Bay flyover.
Town of Hempstead residents interested in playing in the sixth annual Supervisor's Cup Golf Classic have until next Friday, September 6 to register for the annual late-season tournament hosted by Kate Murray and the town's Department of Parks and Recreation. This season's Classic is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2 at the Lido Golf Club.
The
tournament is open to all town residents but limited to 144 golfers determined by lottery. Registered names will be drawn at the Merrick Road Park Golf Course on Thursday, September 12. Twenty
alternates will also be selected. Entry fee for lottery winners is $15.
(There is no cost to apply.) Rain date for the event is Wednesday,
October 16.
The 144 golfers who tee off in October will receive range balls, motor cart, continental breakfast, barbecue lunch, prizes and refreshments in addition to 18 holes at one of Nassau County's most popular courses. Shotgun start is scheduled for 10 a.m. and format for the event is four-person scramble. Awards will be given out for longest drives, accurate drives and closest to the pin. The winning foursome will receive the Supervisor's Cup.

It's been a memorable year for the Lido Golf Club since it hosted the Supervisor's Cup in 2012. The course was battered by Hurricane Sandy but was able to reopen for play in March. For more on the Lido Golf Club, check out the course flyover.
Willow Creek Golf & Country Club will host an outing next month to support several charities, including Stony Brook Children's Hospital.
Registration is open for the ClubCorp Charity Classic, which will take place on Monday, September 30 at the Mount Sinai course. Proceeds will benefit the Stony Brook hospital as well as Augie's Quest to cure ALS. The outing is part of a nationwide series of charity events held across the ClubCorp family of golf courses.
The $175 entry fee covers 18 holes, a barbecue lunch before the round on the terrace overlooking Willow Creek's closing holes, and a post-round dinner with auctions and prizes. Shotgun tee time is 1 p.m.

Timber Point Golf Course will be aerating its greens next week from Monday, August 19 to Wednesday, August 21.
One course will be closed each day for aeration, while the two others remain open for play. The Red Course is first up in the aeration rotation and will be closed on August 19. The Blue will be closed on August 20, followed by the White on August 21.

Bethpage Black, which hosted the U.S. Open Championships in 2002 and 2009, will be the home of the 2019 PGA Championship and 2024 Ryder Cup, according to a Golfweek report. An official announcement is expected this week, possibly as soon as today, said the report.
The Black Course has been associated with New York's golf-crazed, vocal fan base ever since the 2002 U.S. Open, and has long been considered a destination for future majors and the Ryder Cup. Golfweek ranked the Black Course #21 on its 2013 list of Best Classic Courses and has been #1 on its Best Municipal Courses list for five consecutive years.

Ted Bishop, the PGA of America’s president, would not confirm Bethpage’s status as a future major-championship site but he did talk about metropolitan New York as a premier golf stage.
“I think taking a major sporting event like the Ryder Cup to what I would arguably say is the greatest sports city in the United States in New York would be a phenomenal combination,” Bishop said from Oak Hill Country Club, site of the PGA Championship. “It’s a mammoth venue, and you’ve got a lot of possibilities for infrastructure and being able to handle crowds and the stadium-golf concept. Sunken Meadow State Park is receiving $1.25 million from New York State this year to improve the irrigation system on its three nine-hole golf courses, according to an announcement earlier this week by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The work is part of a statewide "NY Works" improvement plan that is devoting approximately $2.6 million to minor projects scheduled or already underway at several state-park golf courses.
Related to the improvement projects is the launch of "I Love NY Golf," Governor Cuomo's initiative to "brand and promote the more than 1,000 publicly and privately owned golf courses in New York State."
