Dix Hills Golf Club, a longtime destination for nine holes behind a quaint, old-fashioned clubhouse, is closed. It's old news for golfers in the Dix Hills area, who still have the nearby par-31 at Dix Hills Park as a nine-hole outlet. The course has been closed for at least a year.
Today, the course's gravel driveway off Half Hollow Road sits empty and overrun by weeds. The same can be assumed of the par-35, which sported some lengthy rough even in its closely maintained heyday. Grass was kept high just off the edges of the fairways and greens, making accuracy an important factor all around the course. A deep gully crossed the property just behind the cabin-style clubhouse and set up some unique shots, especially on the par-4 third.
No word on the reason for the closing or the future of the property.
