The North Fork Chamber of Commerce will host its tenth annual Columbus Day Golf Extravaganza on Tuesday, October 11 at Island's End Golf & Country Club in Greenport. The outing combines picturesque golf with dinner, drinks and prize opportunities, with proceeds supporting local youth through the chamber's scholarship program.
Tee time is 12:30 following a pre-round check-in and lunch. A cocktail reception and dinner will begin at 8:00. Participants will have an opportunity to win cash prizes, raffles, on-course contests and more.

Golf On Long Island's Phil Carlucci will talk about his book Images of America: Long Island Golf on September 28 as part of the Huntington Historical Society's "Lunch & Learn" series. Society members and non-members are invited to attend the event, which will take place at Black & Blue Seafood Chophouse in Huntington.
The book discussion will focus on Long Island golf history, including the emergence of private and public courses, the boom and bust periods of local golf, and the many courses that were lost over the region's 125-year golf history. Signed copies of Long Island Golf will be available for purchase. A three-course lunch is included in the $50 admission ($45 for society members). Reservations are required and can be made online at the Huntington Historical Society website.
Huntington's "Lunch & Learn" events are monthly discussions that combine local food with a look back at Long Island's rich history. All lectures begin at 12 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Pine Hills Country Club in Manorville will aerate its greens on Tuesday, September 13 and Wednesday, September 14. The course will remain open during aeration with nine holes available for play. An aeration discount will be offered during the week. Contact the course for details.
The par-73 layout north of Sunrise Highway in Manorville is the third longest public golf course on Long Island, behind only Bethpage Black and Cherry Creek Links. The course now boasts new drainage systems in all 18 of its greens as well as a new course irrigation system, according to a Pine Hills newsletter.

The Town of Hempstead is accepting applications for its Supervisor's Cup Golf Classic, an annual tournament hosted by Town Supervisor Anthony Santino and the Department of Parks and Recreation that lets residents battle it out on the course in a quest for the Cup.
Now in its ninth year, the Supervisor's Cup is open to all Town of Hempstead residents but limited to 144 golfers (and 20 alternates) determined by lottery. This year's event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 at Lido Golf Club.
Participating golfers will receive range balls, motor cart, continental breakfast, barbecue lunch, prizes and refreshments in addition to 18 holes at one of Long Island's most popular courses. Group photos will be taken at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10:00 shotgun start. Format for the event is four-person scramble. Awards will be given out for longest drives, accurate drives and closest to the pin. The winning foursome will receive the Supervisor's Cup.
Download and print an application by visiting the Town of Hempstead website. Completed applications must be faxed to (516) 292-6024 or mailed to the Parks Department and postmarked by Tuesday, September 20. Applications can also be dropped off in person prior to the deadline.
Registered names will be drawn in a public lottery held at the Merrick Road Park Golf Course on Tuesday, September 27. Entry fee for lottery winners is $15. (There is no cost to apply.) Rain date for the event is Wednesday, October 26.

Around the same time The Barclays was drawing thousands of local golf fans to Bethpage Black to see the world's best players take on the vaunted course, Golf Magazine released its list of America's best public golf courses, the type of ranking that the Black typically dominates. This list is no different.
Bethpage Black is ranked #4 in Golf Magazine's list of the Top 100 Courses You Can Play for 2016-17, published in its September edition. Only Pebble Beach, Pacific Dunes and Pinehurst #2 rate higher in the United States. It's the only Long Island course on the list, though Metro Area newcomer Trump Links at Ferry Point made its debut in the #43 spot.
Golf Mag's state-by-state list highlights two other Long Islanders in its top 15 of New York publics. Neighbor Bethpage Red comes in at #13, one spot behind the East End's Montauk Downs.
