The USGA's ongoing "Play 9" campaign is designed to celebrate the nine-hole round and demonstrate to new and experienced golfers that you don't need six free hours and a full 18 holes to appreciate the sport. Locally, Spring Lake Golf Club in Middle Island is embracing the Play 9 concept by hosting a series of events focused on fun over nine holes.
Once a month through October, Spring Lake will put on special nine-hole outings, beginning Thursday, June 9 with a "Big Cup Challenge" -- $37 for golf and cart, plus prizes for first and second place.
Later events include a Nine and Dine afternoon round, a Junior Day and a closest-to-the-pin challenge.
