Brentwood and Holbrook offering end-of-season discounts

From now through mid-December, when the two Town of Islip courses close for the winter, Brentwood Country Club and Holbrook Country Club are offering end-of-season discounts that put 18-hole rounds as low as $20.

Weekday rounds with cart are $38 through the closing date ($31 for seniors), and weekend 18s cost $42, or $32 after 10 a.m.  Players who choose to walk can play for $20 after 10 a.m.

Brentwood and Holbrook are scheduled to close on or around December 17 and typically reopen in mid-March.

Heaping plate of Long Island golf outings on tap for Thanksgiving 2017

Long after the majority of Long Island's golfers have packed their clubs away for hibernation, a dedicated group of players keep the active deep into the fall and winter.  For them, Halloween, Thanksgiving and even New Year's are just great golfing days with wide-open tee sheets, merely chillier equivalents to warm spring rounds on Memorial Day weekend. 

While many players have never encountered or even heard of a frost delay, the wind-chill-tested still swinging this November are gearing up for the 2017 buffet of Thanksgiving golf rounds, complete with hot coffee and cold beer.  All outings promise to have you home in time for holiday legwork.  Some tee off before or after Turkey Day.  Most are listed below (all outings are on Thanksgiving unless otherwise noted):

Mill Pond's 11th annual Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout tees off at 8 a.m.  The event sells out quickly.  Click the preceding link for full info.

Brentwood Country Club gets off to an extra-early start with a shotgun tee time scheduled for 7:30.  $42 for 18 holes and cart ($38 for seniors).  Roll, coffee and golf goodies included.  Call (631) 436-6060 to reserve a spot.

Cherry Creek Links is offering golf, cart and continental breakfast for $50.  Breakfast will be served at 8:00, with shotgun start following at 9:00.  Call (631) 369-6500 to reserve.

Spring Lake Golf Club will host its annual holiday scramble on the 18-hole Thunderbird Course.  Breakfast is served at 7:15 with tee time to follow at 8:00.  Call (631) 924-5115 for a spot.

Pine Hills Country Club holds its annual holiday outing on Black Friday.  Shotgun tee time is 9:30 a.m. on November 24.  The $65 entry fee includes cart, range, raffles, contests and a sleeve of golf balls.  Call (631) 878-7103 to sign up.

Pine Ridge Golf Club will once again celebrate Thanksgiving a few days early with a Turkey Shoot scramble on Saturday, November 18.  The $60 entry fee covers golf, cart, range balls and dinner.  Tee time is 11 a.m.  Top prize is a turkey.  Call (631) 331-7930 or register online at the Pine Ridge website.

Timber Point Golf Course is hosting a nine-hole scramble complete with prizes for closest to the pilgrim (pin) and wildest turkey (driving contest).  Bagels and mimosas are included along with cart and range balls for $59 per player.  Tee time is 9:30 a.m.  Register by Tuesday, November 21 either online or at the Timber Point pro shop.

Harbor Links will hold its annual holiday Turkey Shoot, scheduled for a 9:00 tee time.  Golf, cart and breakfast is $65 for Town of North Hempstead residents; $75 for non-residents.  Call (516) 767-4816.

Island's End Golf & Country Club in Greenport will feature a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start to make sure everyone's home in time for dinner.  Cost is $49 with cart.

Crab Meadow Golf Course is offering 18 holes, breakfast and beverages as part of its holiday Turkey Shoot scramble.  Call (631) 757-8800 for details and registration.

Thanksgiving Day scramble at Timber Point

Make time to scramble and clear room for the feast this Thanksgiving Day.  Timber Point Golf Course has the scramble part covered, at least, with another in a long tradition of holiday-themed golf outings.

The Great River course will host a Thanksgiving nine-hole outing scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m.  As is custom at Timber Point, the outing will be preceded by a putting contest.  Bagels and mimosas will be served, and prizes are up for grabs for closest-to-pin and driving contests.  Format is four-person scramble.

Entry fee is $59.  Register by Tuesday, November 21 either online or at the Timber Point pro shop.  Refunds will be issued if the event is canceled.

Turkey is the prize at Pine Ridge's pre-holiday golf outing

Pine Ridge Golf Club is all about turkey this November -- not only is the course keeping Thanksgiving Day clear for full turkey enjoyment, but it's making the holiday bird the top prize at this year's Turkey Shoot golf outing.

The 2017 Turkey Shoot is scheduled for this Saturday, November 18.  The $60 entry fee include 18 holes on the Coram course, plus beer and dinner.  Winner takes home a turkey.

Tee time for the event is 11:00 a.m.  Register online at the Pine Ridge website.

Mill Pond's annual Turkey Shootout tees off Thanksgiving morning

Mill Pond Golf Course's popular Thanksgiving morning Turkey Shootout is back for its 11th year.  Registration is open for a holiday morning of hot breakfast early, cold beer late and a chilly 18 holes in between.

The 11th annual Thanksgiving event will tee off at 8 a.m. on November 23.  Format is four-person team scramble.  The $73 entry fee takes care of cart, range balls and a hot breakfast buffet prior to play.  After golf, stick around for a free beer or soda -- you'll still be home in time to mash the potatoes.  Prizes will be awarded for raffles, low team score and a closest-to-the-pin challenge. 

The Thanksgiving scramble sells out every year, so register ASAP, either in person at the course or by calling the Mill Pond pro shop at (631) 732-8249.  Spots will not be reserved without pre-payment.

Mill Pond again offering "Comeback Coupon" with Veterans Day rounds

Veterans Day golfers can pick up a second round for free if they tee it up at Mill Pond Golf Course on this year's November holiday.

The Medford course is once again offering a special in which Veterans Day rounds -- that's Friday, November 10 -- will include a "Comeback Coupon" that entitles players to a free follow-up greens fee anytime through April 27, 2018.  The coupon can be used for any weekday rounds of equal or lesser value.  Cart and reservation fees are not included.  (Golfers must also be on Mill Pond's e-mail list to receive the coupon.)

Offseason rates are in effect at Mill Pond.  Eighteen-hole fees with cart range from $36 to $53, and Town of Brookhaven residents can walk 18 for as little as $25.

Scramble tournament at Island's End on November 5

Island's End Golf & Country Club in Greenport will host a scramble tournament this Sunday, November 5.  Shotgun start is slated for 9:00 a.m.

Two-person teams are invited to sign up for the event, which will include a post-round buffet lunch & bar service, perfect timing to catch the start of Sunday football.  The $99 entry fee also covers range balls and motor cart.  Prizes will be given for low gross and low net.  Call (631) 477-0777 to register.
